Research line 1: Climate change impacts on coasts: The Science
The potential CC impacts on coasts and associated socio-economic/environmental risks are widely recognised. Nations around the world are already taking drastic measures to develop resilience to CC impacts. Assessment of potential CC impacts on coasts, may they be physical or ecological, first requires an in-depth knowledge of how and why CC driven variations in coastal forcing will influence coastal processes. This is, at present, a major scientific knowledge gap. This research line will focus on finding answers to such fundamental science questions via inter-disciplinary research. Once these fundamental science questions are answered, numerical models that can accurately predict coastal CC impacts can be developed.
